The History & Spirit of 314 Day

314 Day (March 14th) started as a local celebration of St. Louis pride, name after the city's 314 area code. Over time, it evolved into a day that highlights Black Excellence, local businesses , community activism, and cultural identity. 

It represents resilience, support for one another and giving back to the community - values that align directly with Wesley Houses' work. 

It's a time to recognize St. Louis change-makers  who uplift the city, much like Wesley House's commitment to empowering youth and families.

A Legacy of Community Impact

Wesley House started as a settlement house in 1903 for European Immigrants. As a community base center, we provide hands- on services to the underserve youth, their families and the seniors within the community. With our efforts are grounded on three principles (1) supporting the community (2) respecting the elders and (3) preserving our youth's future.

Just as 314 Day celebrates the strength of St. Louis, Wesley House has been a pillar of hope for the city's youth and families. Wesley House has provided education, safety, and empowerment for generations - just as 314 Day serves as a reminder of the city's ongoing progress and unity.

314 Day encourages giving back to the community. Wesley House is an embodiment of that spirit year-round, ensuring that young people have the tools and support to thrive. This aligns with the "for us, by us" mentality of 314 Day, which focuses on building a better St. Louis for the future.
